Assignment 4

What other way could one pass time than to do what you have passion in? Sedaris seem to have captured the moment and killed the frustration of the the short and yet a long flight thanks to the mother nature! As things unfolded, Sedaris at airport purposed to exercise his talent and wrote what has now become learning articles for upcoming writers of English 101! If I were Sedaris,I would have made some spreadsheets and tried to balance some financial statements. It is such a good feeling when accounts balance! I can see where Sedaris is coming from; doing what he does best-writing!

Although Sedaris wrote this at the airport, he seem to have targeted diverse audience not necessarily passengers alone, but people from all over the world. Although when people are faced with flight delays or whatever may cause them to be stranded for longer periods at the airport, they end up misusing their valued time, engaging in unproductive activities such as laying around the airport chairs sleeping or just staring at people passing by. Others resort to drinking or shopping around in the duty free shops. I commend Sedaris for utilizing his time resourcefully, writing captivating stories that vividly seized the moment. He got to work of writing, what he sees around him- the people, the views, looks, dress code, the status, the views, and anything that captures his attention, that of course did not escape the watchful eye of the scribe. He does a great job using his  panoramic view to capture and captivate the audience in a fascinating way to entertain through his writing.

Sedaris does not hide his political views considering that he wrote this piece at the time President Obama was selected into office. He noted some interesting political conversations among the passengers. "we've got to take our country back" (Sedaris, 277).
